Lactulose oral liquid 500ml

Lactulose is a synthetic disaccharide sugar commonly used in veterinary medicine to to address various conditions in pets, particularly those related to hepatic encephalopathy and congenital portosystemic shunt. Additionally, it serves as a commonly utilized laxative for managing constipation in dogs and cats.

In pets suffering from hepatic encephalopathy, which is a neurological disorder caused by liver dysfunction, lactulose plays a crucial role in managing symptoms. Hepatic encephalopathy occurs when the liver fails to adequately remove toxins from the blood, leading to neurologic abnormalities. Lactulose works by promoting the excretion of ammonia, a neurotoxic substance, from the body, thereby alleviating symptoms associated with hepatic encephalopathy.

Direction:

Ensure administration is under veterinary supervision and adjust dosage based on individual pet's response and condition severity.

Constipation

• Dogs: 0.25-0.5ml per kilogram every 6 to 8 hours. Adjust dosage to obtain the stool quality desired
• Cats: 0.5ml per kilogram (usually 2-3ml per cat) every 8 to 12 hours. Adjust dosage to obtain the stool quality desired. 

Hepatic encephalopathy / congenital portosystemic shunt

• 1-3ml per 10kg every 6 to 8 hours, adjust dose to achieve 3 to 4 soft stools per days
