About Yunnan Baiyao
Yunnan Bai Yao is a traditional Chinese herbal supplement used for centuries. It is derived from a variety of plants including Sanchi (Radix notoginseng) and other botanicals. Each box contains 16 capsules (0.25 g each), plus 1 red emergency pill for use in cases of significant shock or haemorrhage.
Dosage
The capsule is to be taken orally twice daily. For external bleeding wounds, the capsule can be opened and sprinkled directly over the wound to help stop bleeding.
Use in Veterinary Medicine
Veterinarians have used Yunnan Baiyao for a variety of bleeding disorders and conditions in pets, including:
- Haemoabdomen – bleeding into the abdomen
- Pericardial haemorrhage – bleeding into the sac surrounding the heart
- Epistaxis – bleeding from the nose
- Bleeding associated with cancer – such as haemangiosarcoma
Some studies have suggested Yunnan Baiyao may help reduce bleeding and support healing. It is not a cure for cancer. Always consult your veterinarian before use.

My dog has what the vet beleive is a tumor in his nose that bleeds from sneezing so after doing a lot of research we took the plunge and thought we’d try these to see if they would stop the bleeding. And boy these did not disappoint. Bleeding has completely stopped and our dog is also surprisingly sneezing less. We had hit a dead end and were out of options so this has given him a second chance and provided comfort to him.
Use these in conjunction with Tranexamic Acid medication and pain relief for spleen cancer in my beautiful staffy. She wasn’t expected to last out the week but we are now 4 months and going strong. Keep an eye out for the little red emergency pill in the middle of the pack, I’m hoping not to have to use it but it is there if she needs it.
Our 11yr old labrador had internal bleeding due to cancer of the spleen. The vet advised we put him on a course of Yunnan Baiyao and Tranexamic Acid. It seemed to have worked. At the time the vet gave him maybe a day to live and suggested we consider putting him down. That was 6 weeks ago and now he's 99% back to normal. We're now just doing a daily maintenance dose and he seems to be responding well. Yunnan Baiyao is a huge part of this daily routine. Also ensure you save the "Red" (small round pill in the middle of the blister packet). This is the emergency pill and was hard to locate initially. Keep them handy.
I have been giving my little Maltese x shitzu x bichon frise 2 capsules a day and am finding there are has been a decrease in his nosebleeds. The vets are thinking he has a type of bone cancer in his skull. Although they can't confirm it. Even though xrays and biopsies been done.
